Diesel fuel's viscosity drops by approximately 30% from 0°C to 80°C, altering the internal leak-through rate inside the injector's control chamber. This change in viscosity affects the pressure drop across the bleed orifice, which in turn shifts the opening delay and the delivered fuel quantity. The ECM attempts to compensate using its fuel temperature sensor, but the compensation is based on a nominal injector model that does not account for individual injector variations.
